A gran-of-three who was made redundant during lockdown has discovered a passion for DIY and now makes money out of upcycled furniture she finds for free.
Hellan Pearce saw her income take a huge hit when she lost her job as a payroll manager at the start of the pandemic.
The 56-year-old was in desperate need of new furniture for her home but couldn’t afford the stylish items she saw online.
The mum-of-six decided to try her hand at making her own and hunted Facebook Marketplace for old wooden pallets, bed frames and even benches – and managed to get them all for free.
During lockdown, Hellan has made an ornate garden shelf made from the slats of an old bed frame, an upcycled outdoor bench and a radiator cover.
